The Fully Informed Jury Association

The primary function of the independent juror is not, as many think, to dispense punishment to fellow citizens accused of breaking various laws, but rather to protect fellow citizens from tyrannical abuses of power by government.
Juries protect society from dangerous individuals and also protect individuals from dangerous government. Jurors have a duty and responsibility to render a just verdict. They must take into account the facts of the case, mitigating circumstances, the merits of the law, and the fairness of its application in each case. The recognition of the authority and right of jurors to weigh the merits of the law and to render a verdict based on conscience, dates from before the writing of our Constitution, in cases such as those of William Penn and Peter Zenger. Should this right ever be suppressed, the people will retain the right to resist, having an unalienable right to veto or nullify bad and oppressive laws, and in fact then would be morally compelled to do so.

The New Sons of Liberty Society

The following exchange occurred with the owner of the New Sons of Liberty Society website:

Gentlemen:

You have a great name and a great idea. Why don't you do something with it, or turn it over to someone who will?

-Jim

Replied:
Or turn it over to someone who will...? That's a pretty bold statement there, Jim...as if anyone had a right to someone else's property...Very Obama if you ask me. --

I didn't mean anything like that. Sorry.

It's just I noticed nothing has changed for months, and thought you might be interested in doing something like that. Of course no one can make you do it. I was intrigued with the name, but became disappointed after realizing the site was dormant.

-Jim

Replied:
Transition and time...

Sir,
Let me re-try my reply. First let me apologize for my brashness to you.
I presumed I was writing to a dormant email address associated with a dormant site, and my email would not be read, much less answered.

I see that you are editor of the Online Journal, and hardly dormant. You're certainly deserving of more respect than I gave.

Still, It seems a shame, and a little disrespectful to the reference made by the site to the historic Sons of Liberty, to allow a name that implies vigorous opposition to lie dormant.

What I still mean to suggest is that you would do the name a great service to delegate its upkeep and promotion to someone you would trust to do it justice.

-Jim

-----------------

Replied:
...and yet, in this sea of conservative brethren, it is harder to find “a few good men” who would be willing to dedicate themselves to the Founders and Framers ideology exclusively. Each attempt at creating a cohesive effort is confounded by those who insist on interjecting their own personal biases and special interests that would receive from the Sons themselves a proper tar and feathering.

Since this exchange took place, the New Sons of Liberty website has been redeveloped. It's good and worth your visit.

Interestingly, the .com domain with the same name forwards to a site called the United States Militia.
